The Alexander Velvet Noise Stereo Enhancer Pedal is a compact stereo widening tool for players who want more space around their sound without relying on the usual phase shifting, obvious delay, or frequency tricks. Instead, Velvet Noise uses a velvet-noise decorrelation algorithm to make the left and right channels less similar in a way inspired by how acoustic spaces scatter sound. The result is a wider image designed to retain a solid center and hold together when summed to mono, making it useful after a mono pedal chain, within an existing stereo rig, or as a finishing tool for ambient and modulation-heavy setups.
There is just one Width control to manage the effect. Fully counterclockwise gives you the direct signal, while turning it up progressively blends in the decorrelated stereo signal. Maximum decorrelation occurs around the midpoint; beyond that, Velvet Noise adds subtle modulation to its twin delay lines for even greater separation and movement. Internally selectable mono or stereo input modes let the pedal accept either type of rig, while the output is always stereo. It ships configured for mono-in/stereo-out operation, which makes it particularly easy to place between your mono drives, compressors, or filters and stereo delays and reverbs.
Under the hood, a Spin Semiconductor FV-1 handles the decorrelation processing, paired with a discrete JFET input preamp and a tailored analog section designed for low-noise operation. Top-mounted TRS audio connections help keep the footprint manageable, and buffered bypass uses soft-touch switching. We like Velvet Noise because it solves a pretty specific problem without turning it into another menu-driven stereo processor. If you want to take a mono source or an already-stereo rig and give it more perceived width, one knob gets you there.
