Description
The Heritage H-150 P90 Standard II in Midnight Blue takes the familiar single-cut platform and gives it the direct, expressive character of a pair of P90 pickups. Built at the historic 225 Parsons Street factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, it reflects Heritage's connection to traditional American guitar building while incorporating practical updates for today's players. The opaque Midnight Blue finish gives this version a particularly bold identity. While there is a curly maple top underneath, the finish is not transparent or translucent, so the figuring is intentionally concealed beneath the deep blue color.
Beneath the nitrocellulose gloss finish, the H-150 combines a curly maple top with a genuine mahogany back. Weight relief helps make the solid body more comfortable during longer rehearsals and gigs while retaining the substantial feel expected from an H-150. The maple and mahogany construction creates a strong foundation for the P90 pickups, making this guitar well suited to blues, rock, roots, alternative, and other styles that benefit from an articulate attack and prominent midrange.
The genuine mahogany neck features a 60s C profile measuring approximately .847" to .922", providing enough substance for a supportive feel without becoming overly bulky. Its rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius, 22 Jescar medium jumbo frets, and traditional trapezoid inlays. The 24 3/4" scale length keeps bends and vibrato comfortable, while a bone nut provides a solid contact point at the headstock. Heritage tuners work alongside a Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece for straightforward tuning and intonation adjustment.
A pair of Heritage Custom Shop 225 Standard P90 pickups gives this H-150 its distinctive electrical voice. Wound in-house with 42 AWG poly wire and Alnico 5 magnets, they are designed for a fat, articulate response with tight lows, crisp highs, and the punchy midrange character associated with P90s. They can move from clear rhythm sounds to gritty, driven tones with changes in picking attack and amplifier gain. Two volume and two tone controls provide independent adjustment for each pickup, while CTS potentiometers, .022uF capacitors, and a three-way toggle complete the electronics.
The opaque Midnight Blue finish gives this particular H-150 P90 Standard II a very different visual personality from Heritage's burst and translucent finishes. Although a figured curly maple top remains part of the guitar's construction, its figuring is not visible through the finish. Instead, the solid Midnight Blue color provides a clean, contemporary appearance complemented by chrome hardware, a plastic pickguard, Top Hat knobs, a cream switch tip, and the updated headplate veneer with Heritage logo.
At Cream City Music, we think the H-150 P90 Standard II in Midnight Blue offers an appealing mix of classic construction and a more distinctive modern look. The maple and mahogany body provides a familiar foundation, the 60s C neck is comfortable and substantial, and the in-house Heritage P90s give the guitar plenty of clarity, punch, and attitude. The opaque Midnight Blue finish sets this example apart visually, while the included Heritage Premium Standard Case makes it ready for regular studio, rehearsal, and stage use.
