Description
The Jam Pedals Tiny Amp Destroyer Overdrive Pedal takes one of Stu Mackenzie's favorite unconventional guitar sounds and turns it into something you can put on a pedalboard. Developed with the King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard frontman, Tiny Amp Destroyer is based on the sound of two JAM Boomster clean boosts pushing a cheap, tiny pawn shop amp far beyond its intended limits. The goal wasn't to clean that sound up. It's about capturing the crunchy, boxy, buzzy breakup and unstable character that made the original setup useful in the first place.
Rather than simply recreating one fixed sound, JAM built the Tiny Amp Destroyer around two gain stages that can be used independently or stacked. That gives you room to move from lower-gain breakup into dense, heavily saturated distortion, with enough shaping available to move beyond the intentionally blown-out small-amp character when needed. A treble boost and "Magic" switch add further options, and the pedal can be used with clean or dirty amps, different guitars, and different pickup types to push the circuit in different directions.
The Tiny Amp Destroyer was refined with Stu during King Gizzard's 2025 Athens residency, and he went on to use the prototype for the remainder of the tour. We think that's the key to understanding this pedal. It's not trying to be a polished, conventional overdrive. It's a controllable version of a very specific overloaded amp sound, with enough range to make that idea useful well beyond the rig that inspired it.
