Based off of a tuned-up rare vintage silicon circuit, MXR’s Super Badass Variac Fuzz is a killer throwback fuzz with one serious tweak – power starvation. At its core, this pedal is incredibly simple – Tone, Output and Gain -- but its true charm comes from the Variac knob, which allow players to starve the circuit of power, effectively giving it the various sounds of a dying pedal – loose, saggy, crackling grit. Turning the knob in the opposite direction causes another effect entirely by adding headroom, opening the fuzz into more transparent territory. In all, this pedal can simply be used as a great-sounding vintage silicone fuzz or wretched into the sloppy gristle of a half-dead battery.
