Description
What makes this guitar special: A rare flat top jumbo made by Gretsch for Bacon Belmont, featuring a solid spruce top with gorgeous flame maple back & sides. The guitar produces a bright, snappy tone & would make an excellent addition to any Gretsch aficionado's collection.
Cosmetic Condition: Pretty good shape actually for being about seven decades old. Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. The binding has shrunk in some areas, most notably in the body waist. There's a small crack in the top near the treble side waist from the pickguard shrinking a bit. There's a tiny bit of seam separation in the top extending from behind the bridge, but it's not too bad. A lot of the neck binding was loose & needed to be reglued. The U-shaped chipping in the finish on the back of the neck is not a crack, but rather the outline of the headstock veneer. Overall the guitar has a wonderful, true vintage look to it with a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Chunky maple neck with some light flame figuring. Ivoroid binding with black side-dots. Super dark rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl diamond & dot inlays. Brass frets show some light wear, but have plenty of life in them. Pearloid headstock overlay with Bacon & Belmont logos. Nickel, open-back tuners with cream buttons in perfect working condition. 1 3/4" nut width; 26 1/4" scale length. Neck is straight & plays well up & down the fretboard.
Body: Double-bound jumbo body with solid spruce top. Large rosewood bridge with metal tailpiece & compensated bridge. Tortoise pickguard & multi-ring rosette. Flame maple back & sides in sunburst finish. 17" lower bout width; 12" upper bout width; 4 1/4" depth. Guitar weighs 5 lbs 3.7 oz.
Case: Vintage Ess & Ess faux alligator skin hardshell case included.
