The ThorpyFX The J Analog Amp Emulator Pedal is a tweed-style overdrive inspired by the legendary Lazy J J20 combo. It's ideal for players who want touch-sensitive amp tone in a compact, stage-ready format. This isn't just voiced to sound like the J20, it's built to respond like it too, with a custom transformer and dual-channel control for Normal and Bright tones. Developed in collaboration with amp builder Jesse Hoff, this one really leans into the chewy, dynamic character of those classic circuits.
You've got all the right tools here to dial in either authentic tweed textures or a new flavor entirely. The dual footswitch setup lets you switch between Normal and Bright channels on the fly, and the "Supply" control works just like a sag knob, mimicking the feel of voltage-starved tube amp tones. There's also an X/Y switch that swaps between 12AX7 and 12AY7 emulations; a really slick touch for gain shaping. Whether you're stacking with other drives or using it straight into a clean amp, The J plays well with just about any rig.
It's compact, roadworthy, and intuitive once you're familiar with the layout. You can tell it was built with players in mind, top jacks, top-tier components, and that internal voltage bump to 18v adds extra headroom.
