Description
This is the original 12-fret dreadnought shape, first designed as an oversized Hawaiian guitar almost a century ago. Collings retained the shape & wide neck with slotted headstock from that bygone era, but it's a thoroughly modern guitar with a unique sound all its own. The longer body with the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout delivers an open, airy tone with smoothness & warmth not typically found in modern 14-fret dreadnoughts. Whether flatpicked or played fingerstyle, this gorgeous guitar has lots of headroom & the wide dynamic range invites everything from mellow accompaniment to biting leads. Professionally set up with fresh strings & low action so it's ready to play straight out of the case.
Cosmetic Condition: Used, but not abused with various little nicks, chips, dents & dings along with surface scratches. There's a small top crack just behind the bridge that was professionally glued & cleated. There's also a chip in the top, also near the bridge, that was repaired & finished over. The bridge was professionally reglued as well.
Neck: V-shaped mahogany neck with white side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with abalone diamond inlays. Frets are in great shape with only a tiny bit of wear. Slotted headstock with stained exotic ebony veneer. Side-mounted nickel Waverly tuners with Butterbean buttons. 1 13/16" nut width with bone nut; 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works perfectly.
Body: Double-bound, slope shoulder dreadnought in natural high-gloss finish. Solid sitka spruce top with herringbone purfling. Tortoise pickguard with multi-ring rosette. Ebony bridge & end pins with mother of pearl dot inlays. Compensated, drop-in bone saddle. Solid Indian rosewood back & sides with zig zag center strip. There are no electronics & the guitar weighs 4 lbs 8.4 oz.
Case: Original hardshell case included along with warranty/registration card & polish cloth.
