What makes this guitar special: A great player's grade '55 Les Paul Special with excellent playability & superb tone. The guitar was completely refinished & has some newer parts on it now, but the pickups & pots are original. The original serial number can still be seen on the back of the headstock. Professionally set up by our own luthier with fresh strings & low action, so it plays & sounds wonderful.
Cosmetic Condition: Due to the refinish, the guitar is rather clean looking, but various mild surface scratches do exist throughout. The guitar had some modifications done to it in past years as evidenced by the various filled holes & patched areas in the top of the body, which is most likely why it was refinished. We don't see any evidence of a headstock break, however, the neck profile does seem a bit slender for a '55 & the narrow nut width points to some definite neck reshaping. Overall the guitar has a great vibe to it & plays really well.
Neck: Slender profile mahogany neck with beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard & mother of pearl dot inlays. The neck binding was removed when the guitar was refinished & replaced with white side-dots. The guitar was refretted with medium-jumbo frets which are in great shape showing no wear. Brand new repro strip tuners & unoriginal truss rod cover. Unoriginal nut with a narrow width of 1 9/16"; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod functions.
Body: Solid mahogany body with compensated wrap-around bridge & 5-ply black pickguard, both of which are unoriginal. The finish on the bottom side of the body has a slightly greenish color to it. Unoriginal strap buttons & jackplate. Guitar weighs 7 lbs 13.2 oz.
Electronics: Original P-90 single coils with newer black "soap bar" covers. The bridge pickup bobbin is cracked, but still functions properly. Bridge - 7.58K ohms; Neck - 7.80K ohms. Dual volume & tone controls with unoriginal black "top hat" knobs. The 3-way toggle switch & ring appear to be original, although the switch cap is not. The pots are original, but the caps are reissue "bumble bees". All electronics are in good working condition.
Case: More modern Gibson hardshell case included. The case is in rough shape with lots of wear & tear, and the combination lock is broken. However, the case itself is quite sturdy & serves its purpose well.
