What makes this guitar special: Recently acquired from the son of the original owner, so it's a one-family guitar. The father purchased the guitar new in 1957 & played it regularly in various music venues throughout his life. The father is no longer with us & the son is not a player. The fifth fret pearloid dot was missing so our luthier inserted a new one & aside from the pro refret that was done quite some time ago, the guitar is all original. No refinish, no overspray. An incredible sounding Special with superb dynamics & powerful resonance. The dual P-90s deliver warm, rich tones that seem to sustain for days. The guitar has a great weight, under 8lbs, so it's super comfortable to play for long periods of time. Professionally inspected by Cream City Music's vintage expert & set up by our own master luthier, so it plays & sounds magnificent!
Cosmetic Condition: Great shape for being nearly 60 years old! The guitar was obviously used, but certainly not abused & shows signs of typical play wear from being in bars & clubs for the past six decades. Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, mild weather checking & some light finish wear. The hardware shows some oxidization & rusting, but all parts are in perfect working condition. The TV Yellow finish has aged nicely & has more of mustard color, probably due to being in some smoky bars, but the guitar does not have a strong nicotine odor or any other offensive odors. Overall the guitar has a wonderful look to it with a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Medium-profile, one-piece mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & tortoise side-dots. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Again, the 5th fret dot was missing when we acquired the guitar, so our luthier replaced it. The guitar was professionally refretted & the current frets are in great shape with hardly any wear. Original Kluson Deluxe strip tuners with cream buttons are in perfect working condition. No other tuners were on the guitar & there are no additional screw holes anywhere. 1 11/16" original nut; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod is in good working condition.
Body: Solid, one-piece slab mahogany body. Wrap-around bridge/tailpiece with nickel hardware. 5-ply black pickguard is in great shape with some pick wear, but no cracks. Guitar weighs 7 lbs 14.4 oz.
Pickups: Original 'soapbar' P-90 single coils with black covers. Bridge - 7.69K ohms; Neck - 7.84K ohms. Dual volume & tone controls with black 'top hat' knobs; 3-way toggle switch. All electronics are original & in perfect working condition.
Case: Original faux alligator skin chipboard case included. The case is a bit rough with some tears & a bit of the trim has come unstitched, but all the latches work & the handle is still present. Also included is a Hamer hardshell case which better protects the guitar during shipping & travel.
