Description

A vintage 1960 Fender Concert Amp 5G12 in player-grade condition. This amp was likely re-covered and re-grilled in the 1960s or 70s, when the "modern" look of black and silver amps was all the rage. The speakers have been changed as well, though two speakers are period-correct Jensen Alnicos. Speakers and cosmetics aside, the amp's circuitry is largely original, with only a few minor component changes. This amp features the same Triad 45249 output transformer as the holy grail 4x10 Bassman amps.

The brownface circuit is highly sought-after for its unique, crunchy overdrive tone that bridges the gap between the stereotypical "American" and "British" tones. In breakup the amp has plenty of low-mid chunk, while still maintaing the individual note clarity that defines the Fender sound. The mix of speakers in this amp really accentuates the Brownface sound--with smooth highs and early breakup of vintage Alnicos combined with the focused midrange of modern ceramics. To top it all off this Concert features Fender's first incarnation of their gorgeous "harmonic tremolo" circuit--delivering a swirly wobble that Fender never surpassed after the Brownface era. All in all, this amp is an incredible vintage player that would make a great candidate for a full cosmetic restoration. This amp has been cleaned, professionally serviced and tested. It is fully functional and sounds absolutely fantastic.
