Description

What makes this guitar special Begun by Dutch immigrant & music store owner Koob Veneman in Hyattsville, Maryland whose father had made Amka guitars in Holland.  Approximately 120,000 Kapa guitars & basses were made between 1962 & 1970.  This Series "500" model is a thin line hollow body fitted with a pair of Hofner style "staple" pickups.  Delivering a sweet, rich tone with a nice acoustic resonance; professionally set up with fresh strings & low action so it plays & sounds great.

Condition:  Great shape for its age, with some typical wear throughout. There are various scratches, dents, dings, nicks, chips, and scuffs present, with visible pickwear and some slight pickguard warping. The frets show wear consistent with age, and there is some fretting out in the upper register, primarily between the 15th and 17th fret on the treble side. There is visible tarnishing on the hardware as well.

Neck:  Slender profile, bolt-on maple neck.  Beautifully variegated  rosewood fingerboard with 3-ply binding & pearloid dot inlays.  Frets show wear consistent with age, and there the guitar frets out in a few spots in the upper register, most notably between the 15th and 17th fret on the treble side. 4-ply black headstock overlay with Kapa Series "500" large truss rod cover.  Sealed-back tuners are in perfect working condition.  1 5/8" nut width; 25" scale length.  The truss rod nut is stripped, so an adjustment is not possible-however, the neck plays nicely up and down the majority of the fingerboard.

Body:  Double-cutaway, hollow maple body with dual F-holes.  5-ply top binding & single-ply back binding.  Art deco, nickel trapeze tailpiece with Kapa engraved in the crossbar.  Tune-O-Matic style bridge on a floating rosewood base.  4-ply black pickguard.

Weight: 6 lb, 6.8 oz

Electronics:  Hofner style "staple" single coils with black bezels.  Dual volume & tone controls with black "witch hat" knobs; 3-way toggle switch.  All electronics are in good working condition.
