Description
What makes this guitar special: A superb player's grade SG Special with an ultra cool, true vintage vibe! The guitar has had some modifications, most notably refinished in white & the original neck P-90 was replaced with a hotter Seymour Duncan. Both pickups kick out some killer tone & the guitar is very resonant with gorgeous sustain. Professionally set up by our luthier so it's guaranteed to play great straight out of the case. And speaking of the case - what an upgrade! This model did not come with the "elephant skin" tolex case with gold interior. They were normally reserved for Standards & Customs, so the case adds a lot of value to the guitar & is worth a pretty penny on its own!
Cosmetic Condition: A cool road warrior, just how we like 'em - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. The guitar has been completely refinished & the front of the headstock is heavily checked, but that just adds to it's charm. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with a cool vintage vibe & nice patina.
Neck: Nicely rounded, slender profile mahogany neck with cream binding & tortoise side-dots. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. The dots in frets five & seven are replacements. Original frets show wear, but are still quite playable & have plenty of life in them. Original Kluson Deluxe strip tuners are in good working condition. The D & G tuners are slightly bent, but still function properly. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod is working.
Body: Contoured, solid mahogany body with unoriginal strap buttons. The compensated, wrap-around bridge is later-period, but functions well. Original 5-ply small black pickguard is in great shape with no cracks. Guitar weighs a very comfortable 6 lbs 3.6 oz.
Pickups: Original P-90 in the bridge - 7.83K ohms; Seymour Duncan 2N-J in the neck - 11.78K ohms. Dual volume & tone controls with black "top hat" knobs. All the silver inserts are missing. 3-way toggle switch. Pots appear to be original & all electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Period-correct, "elephant skin" tolex hardshell case included. The case is in similar condition to the guitar with some wear & tear, but all the latches are present as is the handle. There are two stickers on the outside of the case which could eventually be removed if someone is ambitious enough. The larger one is Stevie Ray Vaughan & the smaller one appears to be Jimi Hendrix. They appear to have been on the case for quite some time so we left them alone.
