Description
What makes this guitar special: Excellent condition for its age & a fairly rare model, sporting all the classic features we love in vintage Rickenbackers, like the checkerboard binding & crushed pearloid inlays. The Fireglo finish on this one is still quite strong & vibrant, showing only minimal play wear. The slender neck is super comfortable & plays great anywhere on the fretboard. The pickups sound absolutely amazing & deliver that highly sought-after Rickenbacker jangle we all crave. Professionally gone over & set up by our luthier, so she's ready to play right out of the case!
Cosmetic Condition: Wonderful condition considering its 50th birthday is fast approaching. The guitar was obviously used, but certainly not abused, and shows signs of typical light play wear - various minor nicks, chips, dents & dings along with surface scratches. There's a pretty good sized finish chip at the base of the neck, but that's probably the worst of it. The low E tuner for the sympathetic string is unoriginal as evidenced by the single white button. However, it is still a period-correct Kluson Deluxe & fits perfectly with no additional holes added. The convertible 'comb' mechanism is present & functioning, however, the nuts/washers to properly hold the arm in place are missing. Overall the guitar is in great shape with a cool vintage vibe & beautiful patina.
Neck: Slender profile maple & walnut neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. Beautiful rosewood fingerboard with eye-popping, crushed mother of pearl triangle inlays. Original frets are in great shape with hardly any wear & plenty of life in them. Slotted headstock with nickel Kluson Deluxe tuners in perfect working condition. 1 5/8" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rods are in good working condition.
Body: Semi-hollow maple body with bound slash hole & checkerboard back binding. 'R' tailpiece with six-saddle adjustable bridge. Each saddle is double-notched for 12-strings. The bridge cover is slightly bent, but functions well. Split-level white pickguard is in great shape with no cracks. Pat Pend convertible mechanism is working. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 2.9 oz.
Pickups: Original Rickenbacker 'toaster top' single coils sound marvelous with strong output. Dual volume & tone controls with blend knob (which is missing its silver insert); 3-way toggle switch; mono & stereo outputs. Original pots date to '66 & '67. All electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Original hardshell case included.
