Description

What makes this guitar special:  Made for about a decade from around '73 until about '82, the Ovation Deacon 1252 is definitely one of the most unique-looking vintage electrics we've come across.  Ovation described the Deacon as follows in their 1979 brochure:  "The Deacon. A work of art. Its form follows its function. And its function is to make music. Whether you‘re standing on stage or sitting in the studio. the sculptured Deacon shape conforms to your body. Which leaves you free to concentrate on your music. The Deacon's slim, two-piece mahogany neck means faster ngering and more control. The high cutaway extends playing range to a full two octaves. Powerful double-coil humbucking pickups are fed through the active electronics of a built-in FET pre-amplifier for enhanced output. Conveniently mounted volume and tone controls put you in charge of every note. And the pickup selector switch permits a choice of three distinct sounds. Select the neck pickup for rhythm guitar. Or the bridge pickup for bright, piercing leads. Or both pickups out-of-phase for a funky sound. Balance. Grace. And a functional shape designed to bring out the artist in you. Listen to sound sculpture. Play the Deacon. Play a work of art."  We couldn't have said it any better.

Cosmetic Condition:  Really nice shape for its age - some minor nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches & mild weather checking.

Neck:  Slender profile mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots.  Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl diamond & dot inlays.  Frets show some light wear, but have plenty of life in them.  Classic Ovation headstock shape with Ovation tuners in perfect working condition.  1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length.  Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.

Body:  Contoured, solid mahogany body with two-ply large black pickguard.  Top-loading brass bridge with six adjustable saddles.  Guitar weighs 8 lbs 9.7 oz.

Electronics:  12-pole double humbuckers.  FET preamp, master volume & tone controls, 2-way active mid-range switch, 3-way pickup selector switch.  Two 9-volt batteries included.  All electronics are in good working condition.

Case:  Original hardshell case included.
