Description

What makes this guitar special:  100% original & in great shape for its age.  The gold hardware looks gorgeous against the dark sunburst finish.  The guitar has a beautiful acoustic resonance & the double humbuckers deliver warm, rich tones with marvelous sustain.  Professionally set up by Cream City Music with fresh strings & low action, so it plays & sounds fantastic.  Today's L5-CES models sell for around $10,000 brand new, so here's a great opportunity to own a true vintage one for half that price.

Cosmetic Condition:  Excellent condition overall for a guitar that's quickly approaching 40.  There are various minor nicks & dings throughout the guitar along with surface scratches & some mild buckle rash on the back of the body.  A tiny bit of the gold hardware has worn off the tuners & there's some pitting on the pickguard bracket, but the gold is still quite vibrant on the pickup covers & tailpiece.  The guitar is stamped a factory second on the back of the headstock.  Exactly what makes it a second is hard to say due to its age, but we've thoroughly inspected the guitar & there are no issues structurally or electronically.  There is one minor superficial crack in the side of the body.  It's about an inch long on the bottom side near the tailpiece.  Overall the guitar is in great shape & shows off a gorgeous patina.

Neck:  Slender profile maple neck with some nice flame figuring & tortoise side-dots.  Ebony fingerboard with 5-ply binding & mother of pearl block inlays.  Frets are in great shape with hardly any wear.  5-ply bound headstock with mother of pearl flower pot inlay & Custom truss rod cover.  Kluson tuners are in perfect working condition.  1 11/16" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length.  Neck is straight & truss rod is in perfect working condition.  An after-market strap button was added to the neck heel.

Body:  Single-cutaway, 17" hollow body with bound F-holes.  Solid spruce top with 7-ply binding.  Trapeze tailpiece with L-5 engraving.  Floating ebony bridge with mother of pearl inlays.  Tortoise pickguard with 5-ply binding is in great shape with no cracks.  Solid maple back & sides with 3-ply binding & some nice flame figuring in the arched back.  Guitar weighs 7 lbs 6.1 oz.

Pickups:  Gibson Pat No. humbuckers.  Bridge - 7.50K ohms; Neck - 7.60K ohms.  Dual volume & tone controls with black "witch hat" knobs; 3-way toggle switch.  All electronics are in perfect working condition.

Case:  Modern Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case included.
