Description

What makes this guitar special: Made for only a short period in the early ‘80s as a CBS last-gasp effort to re-engage the Fender customer base, these STRAT’s are increasingly rare and sought after, due to their very unique qualities. The primary “bells and whistles” selling point on these is the 2-way rotary tone switch that not only allows your traditional 5-way Strat tones, but also an additional 5 tones, for all kinds of versatility and groovy sounds. It’s got the looks to match the tone, too-with a Pre-CBS style smaller cut headstock (in matching paint!) set nicely against a gold hardware package. This one’s been well-loved, and has all kinds of real deal player’s wear, but sports a truly beautiful vintage patina as a result. It’s been professionally setup and inspected by our in-house luthier, so it’ll be ready to play right out of the case.

Cosmetic condition: A real road warrior, with all the right wear. Various scratches, nicks, dents, dings, chips, scuffs, and areas of finish wear, with visible weather checking throughout. There is a small area behind the bridge where it appears there was some finish touch up done long ago, and the tuners have been replaced with chrome Fender tuners. The fingerboard sports all kinds of sweat stains and edgewear, with some visible fretwear, and there is visible oxidation on the hardware. The guitar itself has a mild aroma of stale tobacco, and the case has a noticeable tobacco smell to it. Overall, the guitar has a great look with a gorgeous patina.

Body: Solid ash body in Candy Apple Red finish (which has aged nicely into more of a Candy Cola color) with 3-ply white pickguard, 6-screw tremolo bridge, and gold hardware. Body dates to ’80 (serial label).

Weight: 10 lb, 0.8 oz

Neck: U-shaped maple neck with skunk stripe, black side dots, and black dot inlays. 1 5/8” nut width, 25 1/2" scale length. Matching headstock with chrome Fender tuners, in perfect working condition. Maple fingerboard shows some wear, but nothing that hinders playability, and while frets show wear consistent with age, they still have a lot of life left in them. Neck is straight and truss rod is functioning.

Electronics: Triple single coils (Bridge-7.41K ohms, Middle-5.79K ohms, Neck-5.98K ohms) with 5-way pickup selector switch and gold Fender tophat knobs, 1x volume, 1x tone, 1x 2-way rotary tone switch. Pickups and Pots date to ’81 and all electronics are in full working order.

Case: Original hard shell case is included. Case shows some wear and tear but still does the job fine.
