Description
A vintage 1960 Gretsch 6161 Electromatic Twin tube combo amp in player-grade condition. The original speakers and baffle have been replaced with a new baffle and single 12" speaker. Additionally, the output transformer has been replaced with a repro by ClassicTone--the original OEM transformer manufacturer for Valco/Gretsch in the 50s and 60s. While these changes are not ideal for an amp collector, few could argue that these changes are not an upgrade from a tone and practicality standpoint. The modern 12" speaker beats the pants off the 6x9" "car stereo" speakers originall found in these amps.
This amp has a killer look and awesome vintage tone. Its warm, rounded clean tone quickly turns into a smooth, blues-y overdrive as you turn up the volume. On top of that it gives you a very musical tube-driven tremolo. This amp has been cleaned and serviced. It is fully functional and sounds great.
