Description
A very rare model indeed made for only a short period of time in the late '60s/early '70s. This particular example appears to date to the '70s & still plays great! The unique red, white & blue finish is synonymous with Buck Owens & really makes the guitar stand out amongst other acoustics. Fairly simple construction with a sweet, rich tone. The previous owner had a chance meeting with Merle Haggard who signed the guitar back in 2009.
Cosmetic Condition: Cool vintage vibe with good honest play wear - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some minor finish discoloration. The white portion of the finish has aged into more of a yellowish cream color, but that only adds to its true vintage charm & character. The headstock overlay has cracked, bu overall the guitar has a wonderful look to it with a nice patina.
Neck: Round, chunky neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. Beautiful rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlay. Frets are in great shape with practically no wear. Sealed tuners with pearloid buttons in good working condition. 1 3/4" nut width; 25 1/4" scale length. Neck is straight & plays great up & down the fretboard.
Body: Double bound body with solid spruce top & laminate back & sides. Rosewood bridge with adjustable saddle & tortoise pickguard. Guitar weighs 4 1/2 lbs.
Electronics: An after-market Fishman under-saddle pickup was added with volume & tone controls in the soundhole.
Case: Vintage chipboard case included.
