Description
What makes this bass special: Made for only a brief moment in '67, the 500/8BZ model offers built-in fuzz & bass boost features in addition to the two traditional "blade" single coils. Dynamite looks with futuristic tones make this Hofner a definite must-have for any bass enthusiast. It has a wonderful, bouncy acoustic tone to it making it really fun to play.
Cosmetic Condition: Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. There's a major crack in the back of body - about a foot long that was glued & cleated. It's pretty stable & doesn't affect playability or sound quality. Overall the bass has a cool vintage vibe to it with a nice patina.
Neck: Semi-chunky maple neck with some nice flame figuring in the treble side. Rosewood fingerboard with cream binding & mother of pearl stripe inlays. Frets show a tiny bit of wear, but have plenty of life in them. Bound headstock with mother of pearl Hofner & floral inlay. Closed-back nickel tuners are in perfect working condition. 1 5/8" nut width with zero fret; 30" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Double Florentine cutaway hollow body with bound F-holes. Solid spruce top with flame maple back & sides. Nickel trapeze tailpiece with adjustable ebony bridge. 3-ply black pickguard & control panel. Bass weighs a delightful 6 lbs 1.1 oz.
Electronics: Hofner "blade" single coils with black bezels. Master volume & tone controls with 3-way toggle switch. Bass & Fuzz boost with 3-way selector & on/off push button. The Bass Boost works fine, but the Fuzz Boost is a bit funky & doesn't seem to work properly, although you do get a strange fuzzy tone when you engage it. Aside from that all the electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Unoriginal hardshell case included.
