Description
Made for only a brief moment in the early to mid '60s, the Kay "Jimmy Reed" features a super beefy mahogany neck attached to a chambered maple/mahogany body & loaded with a pair of gorgeous sounding single coil pickups. A rare model that's fun to play. Professionally set up with fresh strings & low action.
Cosmetic Condition: Good honest play wear - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, weather checking & some finish wear/flaking. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with an authentic vintage vibe & beautiful patina.
Neck: Extra chunky mahogany neck with nicely aged white binding. The neck was professionally reset & has a new heel cap, although the original is included with the guitar. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Frets are in great shape with pretty much no wear. The top five frets were refretted after the neck was reset. Kluson Deluxe tuners with cream buttons. 1 5/8" nut width; 26" scale length. Neck is straight & plays great up & down the fretboard.
Body: Double-bound, chambered body with cutaway. Maple top & back with mahogany sides. There's some light flame figuring in the maple. Trapeze tailpiece with floating rosewood bridge. Single-ply cream pickguard with black piping & double blue lightning bolts. Guitar weighs 7 lbs 1.7 oz.
Electronics: Two single coil pickups with 3-way toggle switch. Dual volume & tone controls. All electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Unoriginal, vintage Yamaha hardshell case included.
