Description
The Caroline 24K Golden Pizza Fuzz Pedal celebrates 15 years of Caroline Guitar Company and more than 3,000 Pizza fuzzes with a special anniversary take on the Hawaiian Pizza circuit. The gold enclosure gets your attention, but the more important change is inside: a pair of NOS Motorola 5089 transistors with more gain and slightly less noise than the transistors used in the standard Hawaiian Pizza. That gives this version an even nastier edge while keeping the simple, interactive controls that made the original such a useful fuzz.
The three-knob layout remains deceptively flexible. Input controls how hard your instrument hits the transistor amplifier; run it full up for maximum impact or back it down for crunchy, textured breakup. Supply Voltage adjusts the power available to the circuit, moving from maximum headroom into compressed, gated, broken-up, and octave-like textures as you turn it down. Output handles the final level. Those NOS transistors become especially interesting when you start reducing Input or Supply Voltage, bringing out the sticky, crunchy character that separates this anniversary version from the regular Hawaiian Pizza. An internal pickup simulator also helps the pedal behave properly after buffered effects, active pickups, or wireless systems.
We think the 24K Golden Pizza is still a straightforward three-knob fuzz, but the higher-gain transistor set gives you a different reason to explore all the strange territory hiding between conventional drive and fully starved splat.
