Description
The Fender John 5 Phantom Telecaster - Black takes John 5's longtime Telecaster platform and builds it around the demands of modern hard rock playing. The solid nyatoh body is finished with a gloss black top and satin back, paired with a matching black headstock, mirror pickguard, and black hardware for a particularly stripped-down look. A maple neck with John 5's custom Medium "C" profile joins an ebony fingerboard with a 12" radius and 22 narrow tall frets, giving this version a flatter playing surface than the Ghost Telecaster for bends, fast runs, and higher-gain lead work.
A pair of DiMarzio D Activator humbuckers handles the electronics, delivering the high-output response at the center of John 5's sound. Controls are deliberately minimal with one master volume, a three-position pickup toggle, and a dedicated kill switch for rhythmic stutter effects. The big functional difference here is the Floyd Rose FRTS2000 double-locking 2-point tremolo. Combined with its locking nut, it gives you the range for deep dives, pull-ups, and more aggressive pitch effects while keeping the strings secured at both ends.
Deluxe cast/sealed locking tuners add convenience during string changes, and the 25.5" scale keeps the response tight for riffing and lower tunings. We think the Phantom is the John 5 model to look at if the familiar Tele shape still feels right to you, but a fixed-style bridge doesn't. Between the D Activators, Floyd Rose, kill switch, and straightforward controls, this one is set up to get out of the way when you're playing.
