Description
The Keeley Limited AT7 Tube Drive Overdrive Pedal takes the dual-channel Tube Drive platform and gives its tube side a particularly interesting centerpiece: a vintage 1987 Philips JAN 12AT7WC. This dealer-exclusive version pairs that military-grade tube with Keeley's high-voltage tube preamp circuit, while the other side provides the familiar Phat Mod drive voice. Compared with the standard Tube Drive concept, the AT7 is aimed at players looking for warm tube grit that can open up into punchy, chimey overdrive, with two independent gain stages available from one pedal.
Each side has its own three-knob control set. The Drive channel gives you Level, Drive, and Tone, while the Tube channel provides Level, Gain, and Tone. You can use either side independently or stack them, and a long-press footswitch function lets you reverse their order, choosing Drive into Tube or Tube into Drive. That gives you a useful way to change not only how much gain you're getting, but how the two different circuits respond to and shape one another.
The AT7 also offers switchable true bypass or Keeley's buffered switching, plus a TRS remote connection for controlling the Tube and Drive channels externally. The Philips JAN 12AT7WC operates at high voltage, approximately 160V internally with approximately 100V at the plate, rather than simply being included for appearance. Built from start to finish at Keeley's Oklahoma City headquarters, we think this limited version is a compelling choice if you like the flexibility of the Tube Drive but want the distinct response and character of a vintage 12AT7 at the center of the tube channel.
