Description
The Yamaha RSS20 in Sonic Blue is one of those guitars that bridges modern performance with timeless looks. It's great for players who need a no-nonsense humbucker-equipped guitar that can handle clean sessions, heavier rock tones, and everything in between. Think of it as a more refined take on the dual-humbucker formula, with some subtle but thoughtful upgrades throughout.
It's loaded with VH5 Alnico V humbuckers and a 5-way switch that gives you more tonal options than the average two-pickup setup. Instead of coil taps, Yamaha uses alternate wiring for split-like tones without the volume drop, and the push/pull Focus Switch shifts the EQ into a tighter, more mid-forward sound. Combined with the chambered mahogany body and maple top, it balances warmth with snap and doesn't feel heavy on your shoulder. The neck is carbon-reinforced, so tuning stability is rock solid even with regular use.
The Sonic Blue finish has a classic, surf-adjacent vibe that doesn't feel overly retro. The rosewood fretboard, jumbo stainless frets, and satin neck finish make for an easy, comfortable playing experience right out of the case. It comes with a deluxe gig bag, and we've had solid feedback from players using this exact model on tour, in the studio, and as their daily driver.
