Description
The EarthQuaker Devices Blumes Jr MOSFET Mod Overdrive Pedal takes the bass-focused Blumes circuit, puts it into a smaller enclosure, and adds MOSFET clipping for another way to shape its heavier drive sounds. Built with bass players in mind, Blumes starts with the Plumes concept but doubles the available gain and extends the low-frequency response so your bottom end stays present as the drive comes up. At lower Gain settings it can handle crunchy, more restrained overdrive, while pushing past noon takes you into the thicker, more saturated territory that separates Blumes from the standard Plumes circuit.
The three-way clipping toggle gives you distinct ways to use that extra gain and low end. L mode uses symmetrical LED clipping for a compressed, focused crunch, while N removes the clipping for a wider, more open OpAmp drive that can work as a clean boost. M is the MOSFET Mod setting, delivering a tighter, harmonically rich response with plenty of low end and a feel similar to a cranked high-gain tube amp. Gain, Tone, and Level keep the rest of the layout simple, with the Tone control moving from bass-heavy through mid-focused to brighter settings.
Blumes Jr keeps all of this in a 3.5" x 2" enclosure with mechanical true bypass and standard 9V center-negative power, so it's easy to add to an existing bass board without giving up much space. We think this version makes particular sense if you like the extra gain and low-end retention of the original Blumes but want the smaller footprint and tighter MOSFET option for heavier sounds.
